Sam feels like he passed on his crazy to Cas and Dean feels like he lost his friend yet again. Yes, there’s some guilty consciences there. Well, aren’t they always? They left Cas locked in a psych ward with Meg to look after him and Sam’s on the road to mental recovery. So, Garth calls the Winchesters in for back-up.ĭean and Sam are dealing with their own issues at the time. Turns out it wasn’t Jenny Greentree at all. When Ray goes back out to the woods to take his revenge on the unseen murderer of his little brother, he meets the same fate. Pity that it wasn’t so easy to solve the crime. How cute is that? Like I said, adorkable. He even has a catch phrase when he does the deed. A restless spirit haunting the woods and killing campers, it seems like a simple salt and burn will take care of this, so Garth digs up her bones and sets them afire. And when he starts asking around town he happens upon the legend of Jenny Greentree. Yes, he does work cases by himself once in a while. You remember him - the inept hunter that couldn’t follow Bobby’s directions and who got paired up with Dean when Sam was off in honeymoon heaven with Becky. And who should take the case but the adorkable Garth. He wanders off into the dark woods alone, lets out a scream, and by the time the gang finds him he’s been gutted. Baby brother Trevor sneaks out, drunk, to hang with his big brother Ray and Ray’s friends. So, we got the feeling of returning to simpler times with the opening. Campers get mauled, the authorities will claim it’s a bear, the Winchesters suspect something more sinister, and they sweep in to take out a supernatural creature. This used to be their types of cases on the show. I like those, they’re fun, especially when they end bloody. We started off with a good old ghost story around the campfire in the woods. Plus, with the surprise ending, our ability to forgive bad writing was at an all-time high. The case itself was confusing, but the high points allowed us to gloss over many of the flaws. Isn’t that the most important part? The boys team up with Dean’s new buddy in this week’s episode and have an alcohol-fueled adventure. He’s not on par with many of the hunters we know, but he gets things done. When Garth’s in the house, hunting takes on a whole new meaning. Episode: Supernatural 7.18 – “Party On, Garth”

You don't have to pay huge amounts to get a Chromecast-enabled speaker though. The unit supports AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth as well as the Chromecast standard, and will even play songs from a USB stick, if needed. You get all the magic of Google Assistant, plus Chromecast capabilities (audio and video), plus touchscreen controls, plus an easy way to get at your compatible smart home devices.Īt the premium end of the market, the Naim Audio Mu-so Qb speaker manages to mix both style and substance, and oozes audio quality – though you'll need to save up for a while to be able to afford it. In terms of Google's own kit, you've got the Google Nest and Google Home speakers, but the Google Nest Hub Max is perhaps the pick of the bunch at the moment. New Chromecast-enabled speakers, smart speakers and smart displays are appearing all the time, so it's tricky to come up with an absolutely definitive list of everything currently on the market. The best Chromecast built-in smart speakers and displays These smart displays will appear as Chromecasts on your network, letting you cast audio and video over to the device – not all video apps recognize Nest Hubs as displays, but many do. The music streams directly from the cloud to the speaker, which is what happens with video too: your phone or tablet just acts as the controller so you can answer a phone call while the music's playing, and not worry about your battery draining either.Ĭhromecast functionality also comes built into the Google Nest Hub and the Google Nest Hub Max. Many sets made by Sony, Philips, Sharp and others come with Chromecast built-in (no need for any add-ons, though there is some difference in functionality) as do TVs by Toshiba, Vizio and Skyworth, plus some models announced by LG and Hisense.Īs for music, you can cast from music apps (or streaming websites via the Chrome browser) to stream over Wi-Fi to Cast-enabled speakers – you can control the music with more than one device at a time, you don't have to be in the same room (as you would with Bluetooth), and it works with compatible multi-room speakers. Take Android TVs, for example – that's the name for sets running on Google's TV platform. Google's Chromecast dongle itself could well be your entry point to this Google smart home tech, but you've got several other options as well. You can also use voice commands via the Google Assistant app for Android and iOS. This should work on smart TVs with Chromecast built-in, except for some older models. There are now over 1,000 Cast-enabled apps for your mobile device - you can see the full list here - including the likes of Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, Plex, Deezer, Facebook, Spotify, Soundcloud and YouTube.Īs for voice controls, if you have a Google Assistant device and a Chromecast you can say commands like, "Hey Google, cast Stranger Things" to see the Netflix show on the big screen, and even set up your personal profile via Voice Match. With music and radio apps like Spotify, Pandora, Google Play Music and TuneIn Radio, it works much the same. The way it works, at its simplest, is this: you go into a supported mobile app to stream content – a list which includes YouTube, Google Play Movies + TV, Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and HBO Now – or the Chrome browser, find something to watch and hit the Cast button. Essentially, it turns your phone into your remote control. The Cast controller can be an iPhone, iPad, Android smartphone or tablet, Mac, Windows laptop or Chromebook. It was great, and we're disappointed Google killed it – but you can still pick one up if you dig around online. There used to be an equivalent for audio – the Chromecast Audio – an affordable add-on which plugged into your existing speakers via the aux in to get them connected. The most well known Cast-enabled device range, though, is probably still those nifty Chromecast dongles that plug into your TV's HDMI port to upgrade its smarts, including the all-new Chromecast with Google TV. In a nutshell, it's a technology built by Google that works over Wi-Fi to let you send or 'cast' media - whether that be streaming movies, TV shows, music, podcast or radio - from your phone, tablet or computer to compatible speakers and TVs. Similar to Apple's AirPlay and Spotify Connect, what Google refers to as 'Chromecast built-in' (formerly, of course, Google Cast) is another technology that lets you easily control media with apps and, yes, voice in your smart home. We've been hearing more and more about Cast-enabled TVs and speakers with Chromecast built-in, so it's only right we break down what that actually means, how you can use it to stream music and video, and which devices are compatible with the technology. The big improvement came with the jump to Intel’s new “Core i” architecture – the least powerful of these scores 50% higher on the single-core test and a whopping 80% higher when using both cores! Core i5 and i7 Models Although there were some improvements from the Merom version used in 2007 and the Penryn used in 20, they are not very significant as far as raw processing power. The most powerful Core 2 Duo model scores 46-47% higher than the least powerful, precisely what the difference in CPU speed would predict. CPUs are dual-core unless noted as 4-core. The number after the slash is the multicore score, which shows how much total power the CPU has. The number before the slash is for a single core, and many apps only use one core, so that will give you a general feeling for relative power. We’re going to start with 64-bit Geekbench scores, beginning our list with the least powerful Minis and working our way toward the most powerful ones. We have had 64-bit software since the release of OS X 10.6 seven years ago, and that has only increased since Apple began shipping 64-bit only versions of the Mac OS. In this overview, we will be looking at 64-bit single core and multicore performance, ignoring 32-bit results. Across the board, 64-bit operation provides more processing power than 32-bit operation. The 32-bit multi-core score for the same model is 1870, and the 64-bit score is 2032 – 8.6% higher. The single-core 64-bit score is 1152, an improvement just over 7.7%. Better Performanceįor instance, the 2.0 GHz Mid 2007 model has a single-core 32-bit Geekbench score of 1069. But to truly unleash these models, you want a full fledged 64-bit operating system with as many 64-bit apps as possible. That’s our starting point, since all versions of OS X for the past five years have been 64-bit. The entry level model for running Lion was the Mid 2007 Mac mini, which shipped with either a 1.83 GHz or 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo Merom CPU. Where Snow Leopard supported Macs with 32-bit and 64-bit Intel processors, Lion required an Intel Core 2 Duo or newer, officially leaving behind the Early 2006 and Late 2006 Minis. It wasn’t until OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard arrived two years later – in August 2009 – that we had the first version of OS X for Intel Macs with 64-bit support.Īnd then in roared OS X 10.7 Lion, the first 64-bit only version of the Mac OS, in July 2011. Apple released the first Mac mini with a 64-bit CPU in August 2007, although the Mac OS that shipped with it was a 32-bit operating system, whether OS X 10.4 Tiger or 10.5 Leopard. The June 2013 release of the 5th generation models featured a name change to Airport Time Capsule, and a redesign with measurements 3.85 inches (9.8 cm) square, and 6.6 inches (17 cm) high. Some limitations in security mean that although it is usable with Linux, SMB 1.0/CIFS should not be enabled on Windows based computers.Ī1470, AirPort Time Capsule - 5th generation (mid 2013) Shared Hard Drive access over the network is fast and convenient for home/office networking use for macOS based computers which use AFP sharing protocols. TL:DR Apple's A1470 Airport Time Capsule with 802.11ac was great when it was launched and is still great now, provided you have a Mac or an iOS device with Airport Utility which is required to configure and manage it. You can find second hand Apple AirPort Time Capsule's at Computer Exchange (highly recommended, avoids ebay nonsense) for around £90 (2TB) and £140 (3TB) New in box Airport Time Capsules are around but expensive. Nowadays all my Macs have an external Time Machine drive so this is effectively surplus. This was useful originally for over the network Time Machine backups. AirPort Time Capsule's cost £90 (2TB) or £140 (3TB) second hand from CeXĪpple's Airport Time Capsule with 802.11ac was expensive to buy new, at £249 (2TB) or £349 (3TB) (because it was decently specified with either a 2TB or 3TB hard drive installed. Now, a firmware update for an obscure Apple product with a security issue is hardly big news, but to me it was a very welcome update as it meant that someone at Apple thought it was important enough to do and that it was still a supported device. You can read the details over at About the security content of AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.9.1. Firmware update 7.9.1 was a security update addressing some obscure but nevertheless important issues. Apple AirPort Time Capsule surprise 2019 firmware updateĪpple's Airport Time Capsule with 802.11ac was discontinued in 2018 but unusually a Firmware Update was released for it at the end of May 2019, keeping it pretty well up to date. Taking a look at Black Ops 3's multiplayer beta on PS4, it's clear that Treyarch is building upon the solid gameplay foundations laid down by Sledgehammer in the last game. Last year's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was a technical revolution for the series - a generational leap compared to the disappointing Ghosts. Talking the animation ideas through with a developer before starting is the safest way to ensure we don’t waste time animating a concept that is too complex to achieve. Not everything that is achievable within Adobe After Effects will be possible to replicate using HTML, CSS or even Javascript or other libraries. It’s important to have a solid understanding of how the final website will be built and what limitations there are before we start animating. This is achieved using Adobe Media Encoder. The process of turning our Adobe After Effects compositions into video files. For example, an element that takes three seconds to move from Point A to Point B would need a position keyframe at the beginning of the animation, and another three seconds later in the timeline. Easing is extremely powerful as it plays an important role in determining the ‘feel’ of the animation.Ī defined moment in the timeline from which a specific animation is based. This is the way in which elements within the animation accelerate and decelerate. This is the canvas upon which we build the animation. Each layer has its own place within the timeline. This is the interface that allows us to set how each layer changes over the duration of the animation. The different properties of these layers, such as position and scale, can be targeted individually to build the animation. There are a few important terms that are worth brushing up on if you want to understand more about website animations: LayerĮach individual element of a design has its own layer in Adobe After Effects. A developer can then watch this video frame-by-frame in order to understand how to replicate it perfectly in code. Our design team use Adobe After Effects to produce a video of our animations. It’s also important to show the developer exactly how we envisage these animations working. Once we have a great design, we then aim to bring this to life to get our clients excited about their new website. How do our design team create website animations? Loading sequences, parallax scrolling and interactive effects all aim to wow the user and leave a lasting impression. It also plays a significant role in increasing conversion rates and ensuring a seamless user journey through the website. This helps the user understand where they should be focusing their attention. FocusĬlever use of animation can highlight calls to action or other important elements on the page. This helps to guide them through their experience. Small animations and micro interactions give feedback to the user when they perform a task on the website. This in turn should evoke certain emotions that make for a more meaningful and memorable experience. Should the website feel fun and playful? Slick and corporate? Somewhere between the two? Animations can be tailored to reflect the personality of the brand. Why are website animations a good idea? Here are some of the reasons we do it: Emotion This of course comes to fruition once a developer gets stuck into building the website, however our design team also have the skills to bring animations to life.
